Frequently Asked Questions...
What products do you use/recommend for cleaning tack?
I somehow (I can't remember how) acquired this cheap, basic saddle soap: http://www.statelinetack.com/item/fiebings-saddle-soap-12oz/SLT700584/ and I've been using it on my leather tack since, but I don't do much else to take care of it, and I only clean it before a show. (Just for the record, I lease a horse so I only own one huntseat saddle and a couple of other random leather items, all the other tack is from the owner, but I'm still responsible for cleaning it for shows.) I'm not sure if I should be doing more to take care of it.
Do you condition your leather? How often? What product (links would be awesome) do you use?
What saddle soap do you use?
Tips or recommendations?
How do you like to clean your nylon gear (halters, lead ropes, nylon or poly breast collars, etc.)?
How do you clean your western saddle pads, if ever? What about the kind with fleece on one side?
Thanks so much, guys!
Answer:
I agree with D-Andy. I also use Lexol conditioner and cleaner. Condition about once every few weeks. For nylon, throw it in the clothes washer. Works really well. How we clean our western pads is to take them to the car wash and spray them down with water only. It works quickly and easily. Hang to dry. Blankets that go over pads you can put in the washer as well. They also have a a thing called "Slick N' Easy". It's a block you can scrape the dried sweat and hair off of the blanket with. You can buy it at Tractor Supply or from online.
Hope this helps!
