Four Great Gift Ideas For The Expectant Mother
Have you been invited to a baby shower for someone you know who is expecting? If so, here are some great gift ideas for the mother as well as for the baby. If the price tag is a bit too high for you on some of these items, you could always go in on it with another friend or two.
For the breastfeeding mother, you can't go wrong with a high-quality breast pump. These are often quite expensive, but you can be sure that your gift will be well-used and appreciated. A breast pump can serve several important functions: it can be used to extract milk from the breasts while the mother is at work, to increase the amount of milk available in the breasts or to remove milk when the breasts become too full.
Of course, a double electric breast pump is the best kind, if you can afford it. With this kind of pump, the breastfeeding mother can extract milk from both sides at the same time. Battery powered pumps often don't have enough suction, and manual pumps can make the mother's hands or wrists sore.
Another idea is to buy a gift basket filled with bath or beauty products such as scented oil, skin care cream or a manicure kit. You may not think that this would be appropriate for a baby shower, but most expectant moms start to feel somewhat un-pretty by the end of the pregnancy and a collection of items allowing her to pamper herself might be just what she needs.
For the baby, one good idea is to purchase a baby bath tub and fill it with basic baby supplies such as baby powder, baby shampoo and baby oil. These are things that will all be needed when the baby comes, and it won't cost a lot to put this gift together if you're on a budget.
Another idea is a diaper cake. These are made by forming diapers into the shape of a cake. It usually has two or three layers, like a wedding cake. Secure the layers with rubber bands and fill it up with baby items. For example, you could put bottles in the middle and baby headbands around the top layer. Or you could just decorate it with ribbons to make it look pretty.
Any expectant mother will be thrilled to receive these gifts, whether you decide to go with the breast pump, bath supplies or something else. No matter what you give, your friend will be grateful that you were there to help welcome her little one into the world.
